JOINING THE
SCHEME
The Newham HSS has a target to involve all primary and secondary schools with more than twenty per cent FSM by March 2006. This means almost all schools in the borough.
After April 2004, primary and secondary schools will be invited to join the scheme and work through the accreditation process to become a nationally recognised Healthy School.
In some instances the Newham Healthy Schools Team may be proactive in contacting schools with a view to recruiting. Such schools may be singled out on the grounds of equality, e.g. targeting single sex schools, voluntary-aided schools, ensuring equal distribution of schools across Newham Community Forum Areas.
Sometimes through discussions with LEA and health colleagues or agencies working in schools, a school will be identified that could benefit from being involved in the scheme. The Newham Healthy Schools Co-ordinator may approach the school to establish links with a view to recruiting.
Schools complete and return the application form. Training and support is available for schools who will also receive a copy of the Newham Healthy Schools Handbook. |
