MANAGEMENT
The Newham Healthy Schools Scheme is based in the School Improvement Division of the Local Education Authority.
There is a newly formed steering group consisting of:
- The Assistant Director of Public Health
- The Head of Continuing Professional Development Service
- Primary and secondary head teachers
- The Teenage Pregnancy Co-ordinator
- The Drug Action Team representative
- General Manager Children’s Services
- Healthy Schools Coordinator
- Principle Catering Officer - LEA
The National Healthy School Standard says that the Newham Healthy Schools Scheme must
- Consider health inequalities issues in its planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation
- Recognise legal requirements, non-statutory guidance and government priorities, including examples of good practice and sources of appropriate support
- Have the capacity and capability to deliver agreed services to schools
- Have a progressive plan to involve all schools and sustain their involvement
- Identify at the outset, monitoring and evaluation to show effectiveness
- Share experiences to inform improvement and development of Healthy Schools activities
